14 Nights Mediterranean cruise
Southampton, Gibraltar, Nice, Ajaccio, Cagliari, Palma De Mallorca, Malaga, Cadiz, Amsterdam, Southampton
Our fourteenth cruise together
Navigator of the Seas was our fourteenth cruise sailing to many places around Europe. We chose to sail on Navigator of the Seas as she was visiting Cagliari and Malaga two ports we have never visited before. Also we have never sailed on her before and have heard so many nice things about her. She certainly did live up to expectations.
7322 – Balcony cabin mid ship (on the hump).
Royal King Size bed, TV, telephone, minibar, bathroom with shower, vanity area and a hair-dryer.
This cabin was a balcony cabin set on the hump. The room was a very good size. The balcony was very spacious with two chairs and a table. The cabin is located opposite the entrance to the library and lifts I was quite concerned that there would be noise but there was not.
Our cruise adventure log
We chose to go on Navigator of the Seas as it was visiting a few ports we have not visited before as I mentioned earlier plus we have never sailed on her before.
Day 1 – Boarding the ship at Southampton
Upon arriving at the Southampton terminal we could see Navigator of the Seas and she looked super cute. We could not wait to board her but first things first parking and checking in.
After parking we then checked in and boarded more or less straight away around 11am. We got to board earlier than most as I am a Crown & Anchor member.
Boarding Navigator of the Seas and doing a quick explore I was really quite surprised in how clean and neat the interior looked considering she is reasonably old. She is very similar to Independence of the Seas apart from missing some of the entertainment facilities (escape rooms, trampoline, lazer quest game) and a few shops.
On our mini self tour we also discovered who the Godmother is.
Anyway after this initial quick tour and with the sun being out we put on our swim wear as we had it in our carry on bags as we knew we would be boarding early so wanted to make the most of the pool.
The pool was clean however all the pools on board are salt water which was a bit disappointing. It was lovely thought to have the pool to ourselves as we seemed to be the only ones who thought about packing our swim wear in our carry on bags, so big tip for your future holiday. It was lovely swimming in the pool watching everyone else board.
When it got nearer lunchtime we went to the Windjammer (a buffet area) to grab some lunch. Upon entering came across a Welcome on Board cake which was lovely to see.
Plus there was an array of seafood to choose from in the buffet area. However this array of seafood never happened again throughout the whole entire cruise.
We then headed to our cabin as the cabin hallways were now open for all guests to get to their cabin.
On the way we passed several movie posters.
After it had gone 1pm people were then allowed to go to their cabins. Initially when I saw our cabin it was situated at an entrance to all the cabins on deck 7 which I was a bit concerned about noise and traffic of people however thankfully throughout the cruise we did not have any bother I suppose it was also because the library was directly outside and you have to be quiet in a library after all. The room was spacious and very clean and had everything that you require within a bedroom room from a hairdryer to a TV.
We started to pack our small suitcase when inside and whilst doing so our other luggage then turned up which has to be the fastest turn around ever so we was pleased as we could unpack that case straight away.
Later in the afternoon we had to attend the fire drill so to the muster station we headed but this time we did not need to take our life jackets, shame as I love trying them on and clicking on the torch.
Our muster station this time around was out on the decks which was good as next to lifeboats already in case of emergency. We usually always have our muster station located in the theatre nine times out of ten.
After the drill we then headed onto to enter the Spa’s raffle. Alas we did not win.
For our evening meals we had fixed time dining (6pm). Our table of two was near a window but not right next to it but then there was no tables of two which were which did not make sense to me as crowds of people on a table tend not to look out of the window as they are busy chatting. It would of been nice to off been right next to the window so I could dolphin watch but neverless I was not that far away from it.
Our waiters introduced themselves and they were very nice and always wanting to please.
The food was ok but that is only because it was not piping hot and I love piping hot food. This is why I visit the speciality restaurants on board as then the food is always piping hot as cooked there and then unlike the main dining room food which is pre cooked and just kept warm under heat lamps.
After dinner we went and played our first quiz of the holiday The Big Nightly Quiz which was in the Star Lounge all to win a keyring. We did not win unfortunately but then it was just me and Jason playing on this first evening together. Dumb and Dumber comes to mind, just kidding the questions just was not in the field in what we are knowledgeable on i.e. sport.
As this was the first night there did not seem to be much else happening apart from a indoor movie of Tomb Raider at 11pm but that is far too late so we retired to our cabin for the night.
However before retiring to the cabin just had to get a photo with the car as like with all Royal Caribbean holidays there is always a car on-board it’s part of their unique signature.
Before entering the parade we came across this statue of a builder.
Day 2 – at sea
First things first breakfast then onto our first scavenger hunt of the holiday. This one was a Detective Discovery Hunt which we had just 20 minutes to go around the ship and take photos and gather information. One of the funnies things we had to do was grab a selfie with a man wearing a red shirt. The very elderly man we grabbed our pic with looked very confused in what we was doing. Here are some photos from our hunt.
Next on the agenda was a bean bag toss tournament on the pool deck. Alas we lost but then there was a massive turnout of around 35 people.
We then grabbed a lido and went swimming. It is quite funny when swimming when the ship is moving as the pools turn into wave machines literally.
Late afternoon it was then time for to attend a Archery event as we love archery with me only being the only lady at the tournament it was quite amusing when I beat all the 8 men hands down so I walked away with the gold medal. Girl power.
On the way back to get changed to the night we saw the Morning Show being recorded by Cruise Director Cubby and Daniel. We even got a spot in it.
Dinner tonight we ate at Chops Grille which serves the best steaks at sea.
Tonight was a few quiz’s a quiz on food and drink I just got 1 question wrong so I won.
Next stop was the The Big Nightly Quiz which always happens at 8pm and is always a random selection of general knowledge questions.
After it was time to head to the theatre to watch Steve Rawlings. Let’s put it this way he was a bit eccentric. He reminded me a bit of Lee Evans with his antics but a scary one. In fact I could not watch the whole show as I was getting more and more terrified of him.
After being a little scared after watching the juggler I went along to play one of my favourite cruise game shows The Majority Rules.
Majority Rules is all about trying to get the most points by guessing the most common answer that others might say who are playing. For example what is the most annoying thing about a man? if the majority of people said snoring then all those people will get a point. It really is quite amusing but sometimes it can start to get a bit low the belt when people start to be rude.
After many laughs from the game show it was then time for bed till tomorrow another day at sea.
We was welcome back to the cabin by a frog towel.
Question is below which is the frog?
Day 3 – at sea
Today we actually got to meet our cleaner Hanrun who we have been hunting down for days before heading on down for breakfast.
Today I was healthy as I was going to be doing a Aqua Aerobics class straight after so I tried some different tropical fruit.
Aqua Aerobics was a fun class. It was held in one of the main pools and it ended up being me a few other elderly ladies and Jason being the only man. I have never done aqua aerobics before so say the least it was quite strenuous.
Then after onto another bean bag toss challenge.
Followed on by watching the World Sexiest man on Navigator of the Seas 2018. Jason did not want to participate.
Then a few more sporting competitions.
Now it was lunchtime and today there was a BBQ around the pool for those wanting a BBQ rather than dining in Windjammer (buffet area) or one of the main restaurants for a sit down meal.
For rest of afternoon we chilled around the pool and entertained by Daniels question of the day which happens at 3pm everyday. It works with people writing their names on a piece of paper and then place it in either A, B, C or D cup to which you feel is the correct answer to what Daniel asks. If you placed your name in one of the winning cups randomly a name is drawn out of the cup and you then have a chance to win a cocktail.
Before dinner time I went off to wash my hair and get changed whilst Jason played a Michael Jackson quiz before coming up to get changed. He unfortunately lost but only by one question.
The Captains also made an appearance tonight on the promenade.
Plus bumped into Cuddy.
Dinner time tonight we went along to Sabor for some Spanish Tapas.
After we went along and played the Big Nightly quiz and we won today, yeah. We won a shopping bag.
Tonights towel surprise was a penguin. How cute is he.
Day 4 – Gibraltar
Today we went off shore to visit Gibraltar Catalanbay as we have always got off and seen the monkeys but never the beach.
Firstly a quick breakfast and meet up with this fun waiter who dressed differently everyday.
The beach was amazing a cove of beauty with big shells.
We got there by the number 8 bus so was really easy so I recommend catching the bus rather than paying the expensive excursion prices.
After we went and saw some glass blowing in the factory in town.
Before heading back to board the cruise time for a Hotel Chocolate icecream.
On heading back passed this amazing hotel which is on water and stationery.
In the afternoon we headed back on board and went swam in the pool and relax followed on before heading back to the cabin with a bean bag toss.
For dinner ate in the main dining area.
Again tonight we won The Big Nighly Quiz this time a pen.
After went onto have some gambling fun.
Todays animal is a hippo my favourite in the whole wide world.
Day 5 – at sea
This morning there was yet another scavenger hunt but this time it was one which we could take our time and do over the rest of our holiday time as it was a hunt to gather as many different signatures from the nations who work on board.
There was also a scavenger hunt to get photos in different locations which had to be completed in 20 minutes. We won
There was also a competition which we signed up to in build a boat. So we accepted the challenge and for the remainder of the holiday we had time to build it and find materials to create it with.
At noon played my first Battle of the Sexes with other ladies to show the men us ladies are better than them. Jason would disagree.
Followed on we played a challenging game of Pictonary.
After grabbing some lunch we then went to the Arts & Crafts class to grab some material for our boat.
In the afternoon we went and watched the ice dancing Spectacular show and it really was spectacular with jumps and twirls happening everywhere.
Dinner dinner we ate in the main dining room.
Went along to the Big Nightly Quiz followed on by the headline show which we got to enjoy comical stand up performance by Roy Walker. He was highly amusing.
Before retiring for the night we watched and danced at the Disco Inferno Party which was taking place on the Promenade.
Todays towel animal I think was a bear.
Day 6 – Niece
This morning I learnt from my cruise compass that the movie Sherlock Gnomes will be playing on the pool screen and as this has only literally just come off the cinema screens and I never got round to seeing with my niece I just had to grab a lido and watch this movie from my lido and on occasion from the bubbling Jacuzzi. The movie was really fun.
I then grabbed some lunch and then played a game of FREE bingo from the pool area as we resided ourselves there for the remainder of the afternoon.
So like usual went along to the Big Nightly Quiz before heading of on to watch Craig Halliday an exceptional violinist.
Like usual went along to the Big Nightly Quiz before heading of on to watch Craig Halliday an exceptional violinist.
Today’s towel animal an Elephant.
Day 7 – Corsica
Today we decided to take a bus tour which we saw the famous light house. However before we went onto the tour bus we saw loads of Ferraris all lined up for a tour just outside the cruise terminal.
This afternoon we went and played another quiz or two and a game of archery.
For dinner we ate in the main dining room.
After we attended a very adult game show.
For the adult game show this evening we played Battle of the Sexes Game Show which Jason actually participated in by trying to pick up ping pong balls with a Vaseline nose. It was hilarious.
Tonight to my horror there was no towel animal.
Day 8 – Sardinia
So today we arrived in Sardinia and a new place for both of us. We grabbed a bus from outside the cruise terminal as cheaper than paying the excursion costs with Royal Caribbean and we headed on up to Poetto Beach which is lovely long sandy beach.
Even some ducks were happily swimming on the waves.
Plus there was many prickly pears along this beach side.
After we had a stroll around the Village Town Bastille.
Before dinner tonight we went along to the Crown Anchor party and saw a special ballroom dance performed and listened to some talks by people such as the captain and top head chef which was all very interesting. Plus we got some more signatures from top working people whilst at the party.
For dinner our waiter organised it for us to have a Beef Wellington made for us as we missed it the other day when we ate in one of the specialist dining restaurants.
We then headed onto watch the headline show of tonight of Jamie Allan a magician.
Tonight’s towel animal was a gorilla I think.
Day 9 – Palma de Mallorca
Breakfast first and caught in the act as yet I was munching away on another warm waffle covered with chocolate pieces.
This morning we went and played a quiz followed on by a late morning Blankety Blank game show fun then some Total Relaxation colouring in.
In the afternoon we then went along to grab our ticket for our excursion tour of which we booked with Royal Caribbean to go and see the beautiful Drach Caves.
Before the couch took us to the caves we had a short stop of at the famous pearl factory which Jason bought me a beautiful pearl necklace and that being my first ever pearl necklace.
In the evening when we got back on board we decided to go to the Izumi restaurant which was such fun cooking our food on the lava rocks.
After we then went and watched some Flamingo dancing on the pool deck.
Later we then played the 60 Seconds of Less Game show for the evening before retiring to our cabin for the night.
Today it’s a pig.
Day 10 – Palma de Mallorca
This morning we made the most of our stop at Palma de Mallorca by taking a segway ride. Was amazing even though a little scary riding up a very steep hill but the views from there was worth it, especially seeing the Bull ring.
Upon returning from segway we went and browsed at the art which was on display in a building opposite.
We then took in the beach.
After we went and ate some local fish cooked on the beach which was tasty and definitely more special than eating in a restaurant.
When we got on board as we had already eaten we did not eat in any of the restaurants that night however we did have it arranged from the main head chef for us to have a sticky toffee pudding delivered to our cabin as I just love sticky toffee pudding so could not be missed out.
After went and played our usual Big Nightly Quiz.
Today’s towel animal is a rabbit.
Day 11 – at sea
Morning breakfast fun.
This morning a game of Bean Bag Toss followed on by Battle of the Sexes. Followed on by swimming pools, watching a movie on the outside screen and eating some ice cream and play a game of bingo.
At lunchtime we had a poolside buffet.
In the afternoon went and played a fun little game show Don’t Say the Word.
After went back to our cabin to build some more of our boat.
This evening before dinner there was a James Bond quiz. Jason won, well he would he is a James Bond fan afterall.
After we went and played a game of Celebrity Heads quiz and The Big Nightly Quiz.
Followed on by a Royal Mystery Game which was like a murder mystery game with so many puzzles to solve which we played with our regular team family who we have been having fun playing with throughout the whole of the cruise holiday from playing quiz’s together to competing in sporting challenges.
Late in the evening we watched a show put on by the dancers at the theatre who sung some classics.
Tonight was treated to a monkey.
Day 12 – Cadiz
Today the waiter made me laugh this morning. I had to pretend to be a bull before entering the buffet area for my breakfast.
During the morning relaxed around the pool.
In the afternoon we went and done some swimming to burn of calories.
Even played some flying french boules which surprisingly I won.
For dinner we ate in the main dining area.
In the evening we went and played the Big Nightly quiz with VJay and family and this Texas couple who we also have been playing with throughout the cruise.
Then we went along to the theatre to watch Darren Day.
Then we played the most famous quiz type show at see The Quest in which I was one of the team captains along with VJay.
Sadly we did not come in the top three.
On the way back we bumped into another couple who we have played with on a number of occasions throughout the cruise who are such a lovely couple. He was celebrating his birthday today.
Today’s towel animal was a dinosaur.
Day 13 – at sea
This morning we was vetted before brekkie.
oday as we was at see there was plenty of quiz’s and sports challenges to compete in from Adult mini comp to Cartoon character visual quiz.
There was also a special meet and greet with some stars who perform in the shows on stage and ice skaters with special guest Q&A with Darren Day and co.
After being entertained by the cast members it was time to play the last round of Battle of the Sexes which us ladies unfortunately lost to the men.
I then played the royal slots as I love bashing buttons, but alas did not win.
In the afternoon went along and watched the Love Marriage Gameshow was going to compete the the competition to audition was quite high so decided against it so just watched.
After we handed in our completed signature scavenger hunt form which we have been collecting staff’s signatures from different nationalities throughout the cruise to win a bundle pack prize which we won as we had the most signatures.
For dinner we ate in the main dining room.
After went and dressed into something a bit more comfortable and took in the stars.
Then it was time to party.
As tonight was street party night where the entertainment crew gave us all an array of colour and song to celebrate Britain as this is Rock Britannia party.
Then it was onto a late night comedy show by Tucker.
Tonight before going to zzz land we finished our boat off ready for a boating comp against the Texan couple we made friends with.
Today I got two animals which were mice.
Day 14 – at sea
Today was the morning of the great Boat Float off against the Texas couple who we have enjoyed a numerous occasions of entertainment with throughout the cruise.
As it was really choppy this morning though at sea and the main pool was emptied so we had to take the float off to the adult pool. As it was only us and the Texas couple entering and with Jason only in his swim wear it was up to him to guide the boats in the water.
Both boats done well but ours won!
Late in the afternoon we went and watched a Circus Parade along the Royal Promenade.
Was so colourful, full of dance and lots of inflatable animals.
Then onto see how some towel animals are made.
Then time to enjoy some lunch followed on by a slice of farewell cake.
Rest of the day we chilled.
For dinner we went and ate at Chops Grille which is our favourite steak house on sea.
As per usual all the food was top notch.
Then it was onto to see a farewell show with some comedy thrown in by Tucker who was hilarious.
Now time for bed as early morning wake up to travel alas back home.
Day 15 – disembarking the shop at Southampton
Today was the day to go home so a fond farewell to Harun our cleaner as it was now time for us to leave our cabin for those two weeks behind and the ship.
We will miss Navigator of the Seas she was a beautiful ship a bit like a mini Independence of the Seas. Until next time.
